On the Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6: 9 ~ 11
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
The Message interpreted as this “And when you come before God, don’t tu that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? “Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.”
“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.
Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best— as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes.
Let us take a close look on the Lord’s Prayer.
9 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, - Our God is the creator of the heavens and the earth. He is the One who created us and the whole world. He deserves to be acknowledged by His creatures. He has great passion to be glorified as earthly fathers are seeking for their acknowledgement among the family. Our God the Father should be honored and glorified as the King and the Lord among the Nations and the whole people. We should remember that God desires to be glorified and honored by us. So we should pray for His glory and His Kingship and Lordship by adoring and worshiping the Lord with reverence when we begin to pray.
10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.- The Kingdom of God means God’s Sovereign Reign, in other words, God Rules Us. God Reigns over Us! Yes, God is the Head of All Creatures in the Universe. God reigns in Heaven as the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He has a great passion to be the King here on earth as it is in Heaven. This is the reason why Jesus came to this world in order for God to be the King and the Lord for His own children.
11 Give us today our daily bread. – So many people are starving to death here on earth which God created and goves. Jesus knew that many people would be suffering from the basic needs in daily lives. So we need to seek for our daily bread not only for us, but also for others. In the Message, this verse is interpreted like this: Keep us alive with three square meals. We need to pray for our needs not just for our own indulgence and satisfaction, but for the people who are starving to death in our neighborhood and other nations. We are to focus on the people who are in destitute conditions in our neighborhoods and communities. Please don’t ignore other’s needs and try to share good things with them.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. – Are you forgiving others as you are forgiven by the Lord? This is a very critical question. Even though we are forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ, but we are still hoarding grudges against others. When they do something bad, then you may not be tolerant by forgetting that you were forgiven. Jesus Christ died for us for our reconciliation between God and us. While we were yet sinners but God forgave our sins and gave us eteal life through Jesus Christ. We must understand that God sent His Son for our forgiveness so that we should forgive others as well. “In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ – We also need to pray for our Spiritual Warfare and for the full armor of God.
Paul Said in Ephesians 6 that we need to be strong in the Lord and in his great power. And wear the full armor of God in order to fight against the devil’s clever tricks. We should know that our fight is not against people on earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places. That is why you need to put on God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil, you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing.
Paul taught us how to stand against the evil one in Ephesians 6 : 14 ~ 20.
“14 So stand strong with the belt of truth tied around your waist, and on your chest wear the protection of right living. 15 On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. 16 And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the buing arrows that come from the Evil One. 17 Accept God’s salvation as your helmet. And take the sword of the Spirit—that sword is the teaching of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all of God’s people.
19 Also pray for me—that when I speak, God will give me words so that I can tell the secret truth about the Good News without fear. 20 I have the work of speaking for that Good News, and that is what I am doing now, here in prison. Pray that when I tell people the Good News, I will speak without fear as I should.”
Yes, we should follow the guidance of the Lord ’s Prayer for the full armor of God against the Evil One. Always remember that Jesus won the battle by declaring that “It is finished” on the Cross. Satan’s head was crushed and his power had gone when Jesus conquered death by His resurrecting power. He is alive Here and Now!
Finally we need to close our prayer by declaring His Lordship and Kingship all over the world. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever Amen… The Whole world and the Power and the Glory belong to God. For God be the Glory…
In Conclusion, when you pray, please follow the step by keeping the Lord’s prayer.
