Be Still, I am the Lord!
He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ¡°Peace, be still!¡± And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. —Mark 4:39
We all experience storms—persecutions, financial troubles, illnesses, disappointments, loneliness—and Jesus does not always prevent them. But He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5). He will keep us calm in the storm. That is the miracle we can experience in our daily lives.
How many miracles have I experienced in Mongolia? The biggest miracle, in fact, is the fact that at this very moment I¡¯m breathing in the here and now on this earth. Isn¡¯t it a miracle that we exist? Isn¡¯t life like a candle exposed to the blowing wind? Who can boast in this life?
I heard a tragic and sad story in the news yesterday. The same day a father¡¯s son, who was sent abroad to complete his military service as a Navy seaman entered the port. While his family cheered for him all of a sudden the rope from the ship was cut off and he died at that spot. The seaman¡¯s father saw his son die before his eyes as he waved his hand to greet his son with joy, but his hand became the hand of a wail.
That¡¯s life. No one can boast or guarantee the number of years in this life. So when I saw David praying to God to know the end of his life in Psalm 39, I realized that the length of life is short and finite as the length of our hands.
Yes, if we remain spiritually awake in our lives, we will be able to experience the delicate and detailed hand of God. For those who love God are always full of God's grace and blessings. For God is love, and even though we may dwell in the storms of life, we will not be afraid of the storm, because there is Jesus who is with us in the midst of us. We can be safe because Jesus, who rules the storm, is with us.
I think some of you may face the storms in your life. But remember, Jesus is always with you in the midst of storms. At this very moment, I pray that the Lord's comfort will be with the family who lost their beloved son yesterday.
