Let God be Glorified!
The Supremacy of God in Missions
Matthew 28:16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, ¡°All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.¡±
Today, I would like to talk about Global Missions. Every Christian should respond to this sacred call from Jesus very seriously. We call this ¡° The Great Commission.¡± Jesus gave us as an imperative, that means, we should keep the words as a commandment. Every Christian is called to be a missionary. We should go and make disciples of all nations in order for them to glorify God. We should understand that Jesus gave us this great commission to honor and glorify God.
We know that we should go out to preach the Gospel to save people. But it is important for us to know the reason why we should go out as missionaries. First of all, we need to tell the story of redemption to the unreached people by preaching the Gospel to all nations. Actually we should know that the Lord has a great passion for His people to be saved through His Son, Jesus Christ. He has a great passion to be worshipped and glorified by the people of All Nations. God is our creator, so He has a great desire to be recognized, acknowledged and praised by His own creatures. He has a great passion to be worshipped by His people. The reason why God blessed Abraham and his descendants in Genesis 12:1-2, was to bless All Nations through Abraham¡¯s seed. God spoke to Abraham for him to be blessed, so that All Nations will be blessed. God has a specific intention to bless His people. By His people, He desires to be blessed.
Through our lives, we should give honor and glory to our God. Because He gave us eternal life through His son, Jesus Christ. Yes, this is so true, however God gave us eternal life for us to have the eternal relationship with our God and through this intimate relationship, God wants to be gloried. So our worship should be the primary act of glorifying God.
Worship is the ultimate goal of the church. Proper worship fuels missionary outreach.
In Let the Nations Be Glad!, John Piper mentioned that ¡°Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate.¡±
¡°Missions exists because worship doesn¡¯t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more.¡±
As we close our service, I would like to remind you that we should preach the gospel for all nations to give glory and honor unto the Lord. He is worthy to be praised by His people all around the world. Let God be glorified through our lives in all Nations!
