Matthew 5:48
"Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Sometimes we underestimate the power of our words. In fact, our words have enormous power to determine people's destiny. That means we can make people happy or sad with our words, and sometimes we can save them and kill them with our words.
So the Bible warns us about words many times. Our tongue is a small part of our body. A large ship's helm determines whether it can sail properly or be a wreck. The fact that our tongues also play an important role in whether we lead our destiny right or to death.
Jesus was conscious of His responsibility to speak only under the authority of God the Father. He said, ¡°For I have not spoken on my own, but the Father Himself who sent me has given Me a command as to what I should say and what I should speak¡± John 12:49
During His earthly ministry, Jesus focused on declaring the kingdom of God. The Bible tells us: ¡°Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the good news of God: ¡®The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe in the good news!¡¯¡± Mark 1:14-15.
He spoke over one hundred times about the Kingdom of God and about the coming of the eternal Kingdom of God through His mission on earth.
One of the most impressive things about Jesus during His earthly ministry was His ability to control His words. He had complete mastery of His tongue. Jesus always said just the right words for the right situation. At times He would not speak. At other times He would stand among the crowds and speak in a powerful way. The words of a leader are very powerful.
As a leader, never underestimate the power of what you say. Jesus understood clearly the power of His words. It is interesting to observe in the Gospels the response of people to His words. As He taught, people noticed something different about His teaching style. They recognized that Jesus spoke with authority, unlike other religious teachers of the day. Something about the authority of Jesus¡¯ words attracted people to Him. His words also angered the religious leaders, creating envy among those who felt that He was becoming a threat to their religious system. He knew what God the Father wanted Him to say and when He wanted Him to speak.
The Word of God brings hope, comfort, and direction to our lives. His words are the very words of God. They bring light in our dark world. So it is important for us to control our words in order to build up the community of the Kingdom of God. As Jesus spoke the words God delights in, we need to be very careful with what we say. As an ambassador for Christ, we should follow the example of Jesus Christ in our words and actions.
It is so important to control our words to bless the people. We need to cultivate our words to give the right words for the right situation. Words have a tremendous power to bring about miracles or miseries.
Let's keep cultivating our words to be like Jesus. As Jesus always paid full attention to know the will of God, we should also focus on the will of God by spending time to know His will through our prayer and Bible meditation for every moment.
