Who's in charge of your life?
Col. 1:16-18
¡°Jesus is the Lord of all creation because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things have been created through Him and for Him.¡±
¡°This is a great question. I am not surprised that you would ask such a question. I can answer it: Jesus Christ is in charge of the kingdom of God!¡± The question was about authority. Leadership is about authority. In any organization there is always a need to identify clearly who is the boss! Who sets the rules, and who determines the pace for the organization? I want you to consider Jesus Christ as the eternal leader of the kingdom of God, with the ultimate authority over it. Jesus is the Lord of all creation because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the first born from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything (Col. 1:16-18).
The key phrases in this passage remind us that Jesus was involved in creation; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is the one who holds all things together, and all of this is revealed to us so that He will come to have His rightful place- first place in everything. After the resurrection Jesus stood with his disciples and made this bold assertion: ¡°All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth¡± (Matt. 28:18). The Father had given Him all authority. As the ruler of the kingdom of God, Jesus commissioned His followers to go to all the nations and make disciples. ¡°Go, therefore, and make disciple of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age (Matt. 28:19-20)
It is important to remember that Jesus commissioned His disciples. His disciples to advance the kingdom of God through worldwide evangelism. All believers have that same commission from the Lord. We must go and make disciples of all nations. As kingdom focused leaders, we must never lose sight of our commission to go to the world and make disciples while we are engaged in our day to day work.
